DO BIG LEAGUERS KNOW WHAT THEY DO?

I like the old guys. The third-contract pro’s. I’m a Dodger fan, so for me that’s Chase Utley reinventing himself year after year to continue to be valuable. Rich Hill pitching nearly into his 40’s. Clayton Kershaw adjusting to his “maturing” skill set with more sliders and less fastballs.

Ethics Matter

The ABCA convention is an awesome weekend. Let’s start with the first meeting I had on Thursday, the Ethics Committee. Each year, we select a winner for the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award. It’s a really special meeting, and a room that I feel blessed to be inside of.

Communication

Said no coach ever: Keep it down out there! Stop all that defensive chatter. Vocal leaders are hard to come by. Especially ones that are sincere and authentic… communicating because there’s something relevant or important to say.

ATHLETICISM

Baseball has turned into a job for many. With single sport specialization pushing younger and younger, college and professional coaches are starting to see single-sport robots arriving on campus.

Algorithms

“If this, then that.” Algorithms are a great way to make decisions easy, get in front of disciplinary issues, and create non-emotional rules for your squad.
